Sector: Midstream
Challenge: Meet ultra low temp spec (-45°C) with approved steel chemistry
Volume: ~800 metric tons
Size Range: 36″–48″ OD
Overview
A leading natural gas company required above-ground pipeline materials that could withstand extreme cold. The project called for CSA-Z245.1-18 / Grade 483 Category II pipe meeting -45°C Charpy V-Notch (CVN) and Drop Weight Tear Test (DWTT) standards—stringent conditions that ruled out most standard supply options.
Solution
Interpipe collaborated with specialized partners to engineer a solution that would meet both the technical and logistical demands:
- Steel Chemistry Development: Proposed a steel chemistry that could meet the project’s mechanical and toughness requirements.
- Specification Approval: Facilitated review and qualification by the midstream client, ensuring alignment on performance and testing criteria.
- End-to-End Delivery: As the importer of record, Interpipe coordinated production, logistics, and customs clearance to deliver the pipe on schedule.
Nearly 800 metric tons of M45C pipe—ranging from 36″ to 48″ OD—were delivered to spec and on time. The successful outcome met the ultra low temp standards and reinforced Interpipe’s ability to support complex, climate-sensitive infrastructure across North America.
